BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced in strict laboratory conditions and designed to temporarily reduce the muscle movements. BOTOX® is not Botulism. BOTOX® has been FDA approved for several non-cosmetic medical conditions since 1989. Dr. Mentz's experience with BOTOX® began as early as 1988 using BOTOX® in early research at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Since the early '90s BOTOX® was used "off label" to reduce wrinkles. This "off label" use is the standard of care in the medical community and is considered a very safe procedure. More recently BOTOX® achieved FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002 and trademarked the name BOTOX® Cosmetic.
